Nature and Scope

The Outpatient Specialist (OPS) is able to perform all tasks of the RHC Patient Access Representative.The OPS coordinates the Rural Health Clinic patient visit summaries and prints orders for any ancillary tests ordered during the visit. Registers patients for same day ancillary tests and initiates the authorization and scheduling process as needed. Provide patients with prep instructions for any tests and discharge instructions at time of check-out. Verify demographic and insurance information for the electronic medical records and billing purposes.

Compensation

Compensation Philosophy:

  • We have 6 pay increments on our clinical pay scales to compensate successful candidate for 6 years of relevant experience

Compensation Range:

  • $20.82- $26.57 / hour

Qualifications

Preferred Experience: 

  • One to three (1-3) years of customer service.
  • One to two (1-2) years’ experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Database software applications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Data entry and the ability to type a minimum of 25 words per minute.
  • Microsoft Excel/Word and good mathematical, reading and writing skills required.
  • Superb customer service, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong understanding and comfort level with computer systems

Responsibilities

  • Promptly fields and/or directs incoming calls, responds to patient and/or staff inquiries, and initiates patient triage, when necessary.
  • Completely and accurately documents all patient interactions (phone calls, etc.) in the patient’s electronic medical record, including caller’s name, patient’s name if different from caller, call back phone number and a brief message explaining the reason for the call.
  • Ensures all registration and admission forms are ready for patients to complete upon arrival for service.
  • Practices proficient customer-service skills by greeting and treating all patients and staff with respect and discretion.
  • Gathers and verifies all appropriate, confidential health and financial information from patients while using various computer software tools, to assure payment for all authorized services.
